Great article, as always. While I never feel the need to worry about a Duzz/Salem/Partridge trio on the recruiting trail, when does doubt start to mount over the class with the long hiatus since a commit? Also, do you foresee Raines & K. Doyle committing soon and see them serving as that Paris Ford type draw for the ’18 class?
I think the type of recruit you’re talking about is the only kind that it’s important to get early. A guy like Kwantel Raines could really help make this class a draw for other players. I expect Raines to commit sooner rather than later, so that’s a big one to pay attention to.
But as always, don’t put too much stock in the local guys. There are more 4-star kids in some counties of Florida than there are in all of Western Pa. Pitt has done a great job of mining Florida for prospects and closing on guys in the last few weeks and days of the signing period the last two years, so I would expect those two things to continue.
As far as Doyle, I think there’s more going on there. Not sure where it’s coming from, but I’m sensing some cold feet after what seemed like a sure thing earlier in the process. Either way, I don’t think he’s one of those Whitehead-Ford-Raines types, so Pitt can probably be patient.
