Pitt/WPIAL Recruiting Notes

As we head into a big weekend for Pitt, here are some recruiting notes for both Pitt and other WPIAL players.

*The biggest target coming to visit this weekend is defensive end Zack Gilbert.  Everyone’s familiar with his background and his families bond to Pitt.  As I’ve reported before, Gilbert tells me he’ll decide between Pitt and Virginia Tech. I’m being told by a source that if Gilbert’s visit goes “really well” a decision could real soon.  If not, I’m told he’ll “take some time with his family to discuss things.” I still believe Gilbert will select Pitt.

*Virginia DE Patrick Jones will also be in town. In fact, this will be his first time ever visiting Pittsburgh.  He’s a player with very high upside and is maybe abit under recruited.  Jones has a final 5 but in the end, I believe it will come down to Pitt or Virginia Tech.    I’m guessing Virginia Tech has the edge.

*Couple things on Central Catholic 2017 OL/DT C.J. Thorpe . The big-time prospect tells me that he just picked up an offer from North Carolina.  Also, that he’ll be in State College this weekend for the Penn State/Michigan game.  Thorpe (6-4, 310) holds offers from Pitt, Auburn, Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

*Pine-Richland 2018 QB Phil Jurkovec will also be attending the Penn State/Michigan game.

*According to Chris Peak (Pantherlair.com/Rivals), both Elijah (2016) and Caleb (2018) Deveaux will visit this weekend.   Their father is former Pitt RB Glenn Deveaux.  Check out Pantherlair.com for more details .  Intersting stuff.

*I will update this throughout the day because I’m expecting info on Lamont Wade, Damar Hamlin, David Adams, Aaron Mathews, Donovan Jeter and Khaleke Hudson.

*I’m told that Central Catholic 4-star CB Damar Hamlin will be attending the Ohio State/Michigan State game on Saturday.

*Clairton WR Aaron Mathews tells me that he’ll be attending the Pitt/Louisville game this Saturday. Hope to have more on Mathews in abit

UPDATE (7:10 PM)

* Clairton 2017 CB Lamont Wade tells me he’ll be attending the Ohio State/Michigan State game on Saturday.

*Central Catholic 2017 LB David Adams tells me that if he attends a game this weekend, it will be the Pitt/Louisville game.

*Coffeyville (Kansas) CC wide receiver Juwann Winfree will make his official visit to Pitt on December 11th
