Jarrod Simmons plays for Cushing Academy (Mass) but came home to spend Thanksgiving with his family here in Pittsburgh.
While in town, Simmons and his family went to The Pete to check out Pitt hosting Cornell.
Last night, Simmons told me, “I thought it was a great night. It went really well. It feels good to be home relaxing. What stood out to me about the game was the amount of local HS kids that are part of the Panthers team.”
Simmons (6-8, 215) is a 2017 forward that already has an offer from Jamie Dixon and the Panthers and seems to be a priority recruit for Pitt.
“Coach Dixon and Coach Barton visited me last week”, said Simmons. “It was really exciting to see them in the stands. They also visited me earlier in the year. I think it’s important that the people who are recruiting you take the time to visit and communicate with you.”
Simmons, who is a Top 150 prospect, tells me that he currently has 9 offers including Pitt, Georgia Tech, Texas, Providence, Temple, VCU and St. Bonaventure. Trust me, the amount of offers will will grow.
Simmons seems to be a Jamie Dixon type of player. He’s a kid with a high-motor, is abit undersized but can compete in the paint and get his share of rebounds.
Making an early college decision doesn’t appear to be in Simmons future.
“I’m a long ways away”, says Simmons. “I hope to make a decision by this time next year, hoping to make some official visits and talk to my family before I make any decision.”
Pitt appears to a school that will be there till the end with Simmons.
