For days, Pitt fans have been trying to figure out who the Pitt “Mystery Recruit” was.  Well tonight they found out.

Following his official visit to Pitt last weekend, DE Zack Gilbert (Charlotte, NC) has given Pitt a verbal commitment.

I talked to Gilbert tonight and asked him why he selected Pitt.

“I selected Pitt because the legacy factor can kinda give me a motivation and a boost to be better than my pops and make my own name at his school”, said Gilbert.  “Being home with my family is everything! The fact that my auntie and uncles and granny and grandpa can come see me means everything. Especially the fact that I have Reggie, Jordan and Kaezon on the team means a lot. It’s just great”

Gilbert (6-0, 241) is a pass rushing defensive end that should be an ideal fit in Pat Narduzzi’s defense. He looks and plays a lot like current Pitt defensive end Ejuan Price.

Gilbert plans on coming to Pitt early by graduating from high school in December and enroll in college early.

With addition of Gilbert, the Panthers are loaded at defensive end.

Rori Blair
Shakir Soto
Allen Edwards
Ejuan Price (if granted a 6th year)
James Folston
Dewayne Hendrix

Getting Gilbert could pay dividends next year because his teammate 4-star DE Jake Lawler is a big-time prospect.
