Washington Looking For New Home

Robert Washington’s (Mt. Holly, North Carolina) life to this point has taken him on many journeys.  Now, the one-time Syracuse recruit is just looking for a place to call home for the next 4 years.

Washington (5-10, 215) is one of the most skilled running backs in this year’s class and all of the top teams in the country are recruiting him.

In fact, 2 weeks ago Washington attended an Alabama game and loved the experience, especially talking with Nick Saban.

“It was a great visit. After the game I talked with Coach Saban. He told me that he wanted me and that if I worked my tail off, I’d have a chance to contribute early”, said Washington.

“It was amazing meeting someone like Saban. Just for him to want to shake my hand and want to talk to me, it was cool”, said Washington.

Washington told me that he has 2 definite official visits set, one is Alabama, the other is Pitt.

Today, Washington will have an in home visit with Pitt RB coach Andre Powell, a man that he knows very well.

“Coach Powell recruited me when he was still with Maryland”, said Powell. “I know him very well. He’s a great dude and I always have fun talking with him.”

Washington told me that he hopes to arrange a date to make his official visit to Pitt. In fact, Washington wanted to visit Pitt earlier but the coaches suggested he visit after the season.

“They thought it would be better for me to come after the season so that they’d have more time to spend with me. If I came during the season, a lot of their focus would’ve been on the game instead of me.”

When he eventually makes it to Pittsburgh, it won’t be his first time here. A year ago before selecting Syracuse, Washington made a recruiting visit to Pittsburgh and was impressed.

“I liked it a lot.  I walked around the campus and really enjoyed it. I liked the city atmosphere and the way that the campus is almost connected to the city (Oakland). ”

He’s also a fan of Pitt’s style of offensive.

“I like Pitt’s identity on offense and the emphasis that they put on running the football. Plus, the ACC is a great conference”, said Washington.

Plenty of schools are interested in Washington (over 40 offers) but right now, he has 5 schools in his radar.

Aside from Pitt and Alabama (definite official visits), the other 3 schools that could get officials are TCU, Louisville and USC.

I hope to have more with Washington following his visit with Powell.
