When talking about the WPIAL’s Class of 2017, most people mention names like Lamont Wade, Paris Ford, Donovan Jeter, David Adams and C.J. Thorpe.
Don’t forget this name: University Prep’s Kenny Robinson.
When it’s all said and done, Robinson (6-3, 203) might be the most physically talented of the entire group and definitely the most under rated.
“Yes I do feel like I am the most under recruited player in the area and it’s only because I’m playing in the city league”, said Robinson. “I feel that’s not fair because football is football no matter the league or level. I’m just as talented as the other guys in the WPIAL but I don’t get a fair look because I’m a city player and some WPIAL coaches like too bash the city and talk about us making it worse not helping us get the same look as their kids.”
College coaches know the name Kenny Robinson, just look at his offer list and teams that are talking to him.
“Right now I have offers from Pitt, West Virginia , Temple, Toledo , Cincinnati and Louiville . Also I think some schools that are close to offering are Penn State , Michigan St and Indiana”, said Robinson.
“The team that is recruiting me the hardest right now is Pitt.”
The big question is what position will teams want Robinson to play in college?
Robinson told me, “Most of the schools are recruiting me as an athlete or a linebacker and most of the school I talk to say that they love that no matter what side of the ball I’m on I make plays and try to do what I have to do to help my team win.”
Getting back to Pitt, I asked Robinson to describe how he felt about Pitt and Pat Narduzzi.
“Pitt it just feels like home. I like the coaches and how they changed the program around this year”, said Robinson. “I talk to them about once a week. If I go to Pitt and play linebacker I think I would fit good because I’m smart and play fast.”
No doubt local players that have already committed to Pitt have been recruiting Robinson to join them. The current list of area kids that have given verbals includes: Brandon Ford, Kaezon Pugh, Rashad Wheeler, Bricen Garner, Therran Coleman and Paris Ford (2017).
“Only Pitt commits that are recruiting me are Paris Ford , Bricen Garner and Rashad Wheeler. They just say stuff like we can do something special but the person who recruits me the most is Paris. He’s like my brother, we’ve known each other since we were 4 years old playing against each other and we always planned on going to college together so he brings that up a lot. We actually talk everyday.”
As of the moment, Robinson doesn’t have any trips planned to schools and doesn’t have plans to make a college decision soon.
