Pitt Future Depth Chart/Targets

With the addition yesterday of OL Justin Morgan, Pitt now has 16 verbal commitments for 2016.

I asked someone in the football program how many scholarships can be given out this year? That person told me, “It’s a fluid number. Hard to say. Lots of projections.”

With the announced transfers of Jamal Davis, Chris James and Pat Amara, 3 additional scholarships became available.   I wouldn’t be surprised if the team lost another player or two in the next month.

With all that being said, my guess is that Pitt will use another 6-7 scholarships. Regardless of the number, Pitt doesn’t have an endless number kids that they can take. It’s to the point now where they have to start filling position needs/holes.

Over the last 3 years, here are the positions that have been filled with the 16 verbal commitments in 2016 and Pitt’s Recruiting Classes in 2015 & 2014.

QB- Thomas MacVittie, Ben DiNucci, Adam Bertke

RB- Chawntez Moss, Quadree Ollison, Darrin Hall

WR- Maurice Ffrench, Ruben Flowers, Quadree Henderon, Gentry Ivery, Tre Tipton, Rafael Araujo-Lopes, Elijah Zeise, Jaqauan Davidson

OL- Brandon Ford, Justin Morgan, Zack Williams, Tony Pilato, Alex Paulina, Alex Bookser, Mike Grimm, Brian O’Neil, Connor Hayes, Mike Herndon

TE- Chris Clark (transfer)

DE- Zack Gilbert. Patrick Jones, Allen Edwards, Dewayne Hendrix (transfer), Rori Blair, James Folston

DT- Bryce Hargrove, Rashad Wheeler, Connor Dintino, Shane Roy

LB- Chase Pine, Kaezon Pugh, Saleem Brightwell, Anthony McKee, Quintin Wirginis

S- Phil Campbell, Jay Stocker, Jordan Whitehead, Bricen Garner

CB- Therran Coleman, Malik Henderson, Dane Jackson, Avonte Maddox, Phillipie Motley

From the looks of that depth chart, which positions should Pitt pursue with their remaining scholarships? As I’ve said a few times over the last year, a scholarship offer doesn’t last forever (for most kids). Most times, it comes with an experation date.

Of this group, the only 2 kids that I’m confident Pitt will get are Winfree and Miller.
