Since becoming head coach, Pat Narduzzi has made recruiting the South a priority.

This year’s recruiting class already has commitments from kids in the states of North Carolina, Virginia and Florida.

A 2017 offer has been extended to 4 players from Georgia- WR Connor Heyward, QB Davis Mills and CB ‘s William Poole and Jaytlin Askew.

Question now is will offer #5 go to ILB Juwuan Jones (Sugar Hills, Ga), who’s started at middle linebacker since his sophomore year?

Jones (6-2, 225) is from an area in Georgia that Pitt linebacker coach Rob Harley has recruited plenty over the last year. The Pitt coaches have contacted his high school coaches. Will an offer follow?

Currently, the 3-star linebacker has one offer and that’s from Paul Chryst and Wisconsin but is getting interesting from schools like Stanford, Duke, Michigan St, Indiana, Northwestern, Georgia Tech and Pitt.

“It’s a nervous time because you can’t tell if colleges are interested in you until you meet them or call them”, said Jones.

“I’m being recruited by schools as an inside linebacker. I like playing the run but I’m also good covering the pass.”

Jones recently picked up a nice honor being named to the Elite Junior Classic game. Today, he was named to the 2015 Gwinnett Daily Post All-County team.

I asked Jones where things stood with him and Pitt.

“Pitt is a great school with a great tradition behind it”, said Jones. “It would be great to receive an offer from Pitt because it’s a great school both athletically and academically”, said Jones.

“My coaches said that Coach Harley said he watched my film, liked it and said I was a great player.”

Jones went on to tell me that despite being from the South, he would have any problems going up North or anywhere in the country to play.

Jones finished 2015 with 120 tackles and is rated as one of the Top 20 middle linebackers in the country.

Keep an eye on this recruit as Pitt starts making offers for the Class of 2017.
