Mathews Headed To Penn State

In a move that didn’t come as a surprise, Clairton athlete Aaron Mathews gave a commitment to Penn State.

After receiving the offer from Penn State last week, most believed it was just a matter of time before Mathews committed.

On Twitter, Mathews said:

“I’d like to thank all the universities that took the time and recruit me but after sitting down for awhile and talking with my family, I’m blessed to say I’ve decided to commit to Penn State University.”

Mathews (6-4, 190) was down to Penn State, Pitt, West Virginia and Toledo. The Clairton star becomes Penn State’s 19th verbal commitment for 2016 and was recruited by Terry Smith and Bob Shoop.

I’m being told by a Penn State Insider that Mathews is being recruited to play outside linebacker or defensive end. There’s also talk that Mathews could be used as a wildcat QB in a package or two.

It will be interesting to see if Mathews going to Penn State has any impact on his Clairton teammate Lamont Wade.
