Pitt Offensive Coordinator Candidate?

Published

on

We’re one month away from the 2016 National Letter of Intent Day. Next week, the “dead period” ends and Pitt coaches will be out visiting recruits.

I’ve been on the phone and direct messaging people today, here’s some things I’ve come up with:

*Although information on the Pitt offensive coordinator search has been nearly impossible to come up with, I might have come up with a possible candidate.  Received a message from a media source in Cleveland that told me that Browns current offensive coordinator John DeFilippo might be a candidate.  Source told me that he started hearing DeFilippo’s name last night.

DeFilippo (37 years  old) is in his first season as Browns OC and is likely going to get fired today. Prior to Cleveland, he was Raiders QB  coach.  DeFilippo was also QB coach and offensive coordinator at San Jose State.   DeFilippo is a native of Youngstown, Ohio.

*A source tells me that former Pitt RB Chris James hasn’t found his new school but is eyeing 4 schools:  Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana and Illinois.  James wants to play for a school near his hometown of Chicago.

*Virginia TE prospect and Virginia commit Andrew Trainer tells me that “right now I’m still taking it day to day.  I haven’t set any official visits yet.”   Trainer is being recruited by Pitt and is considering making an official visit.  His commitment to Virginia is up in the air after the school fired head coach Mike London.  Trainer is “very high on Pitt.”

*Confirmed and talked to a 2017 prospect that plans on visiting Pitt. QB/DB Jairus Grissom (Dearborn Heights, Michigan) tells me that he has interest in Pitt.  Grissom (6-2, 200) says that reason he’s interested in Pitt is because of the type of offense they run. This past season, Grissom threw for over 1,800 yards and ran for over 500. It’s still undecided if he’ll play quarterback or defensive back in college.  Grissom tells me that he’ll visit Pitt (for the first time) in February.

Pitt hasn’t offered Grissom yet  but he does have offers from NC State , SC State , Wake Forest , EMU , Toledo , CMU , Houston & Maine.   Aside from Pitt, Grissom also plans to visit Indiana , Michigan State , Iowa and NC State.

Here are highlights  of Grissom:
