Pittsburgh Sports Now Sunday Recruiting Notebook:

**Here’s another chapter in the recruiting story of Miles Sanders. A source tells me that “after his visit last night from Penn State, Miles isn’t expected to make the official visit to Michigan State on the 29th, will only make one to Penn State.”

**I’m told that the Pitt coaching is showing interest in Thomas Jefferson 2017 player Zane Zandier (6-3, 200). Am told that Pat Narduzzi and Pitt DB coach Renaldo Hill like Zandier. Pitt is thinking about him as a safety or outside linebacker.

**McKeesport 4-star player Khaleke Hudson made his official visit this weekend to Michigan. According to 24/7 Sports the visit made an impression on Hudson.

UPDATE (1:31 PM)-
**I’m told that Miles Sanders met yesterday with Pitt. The Pitt coaches tried to sell Sanders on being the #1 back at Pitt. It appears as though it didn’t work. 20-25 minutes after I posted something about Sanders canceling his visit to Michigan State, the 5-star back just released this statement.

UPDATE (3:27 PM)-
**The Pitt football team is wrapping up the first official weekend for January. LB Elias Reynolds was here this weekend and is a player Pitt would really like to get a commitment from.

I just heard from Reynolds and asked him how the trip went.

“I got a chance to hang around the players and coaches. I got to know them a lot more, but what stood out to me was that I felt like I fit right in, whether it was with the other recruits or players who already attended the university”, said Reynolds.

Plus, the city is pretty dope. Much love wherever you go.”

I like Pitt’s chances of getting a commitment from Reynolds.

UPDATE (7:52):
**Offensive coordinator Matt Canada is starting to put his fingerprints on Pitt’s recruiting. This afternoon, Pitt offered a scholarship to 2017 QB Matt McKay. The junior quarterback is from Raleigh, North Carolina and was offered by NC State while Canada was o-coordinator. McKay is a big kid (6-3) that has a strong arm and is mobile. I had a chance to briefly talk with McKay who’s a big fan of Canada.

“Coach Canada and I have a very close bond”, said McKay. “I found out that I got the offer when he called me. It was very exciting.”

Aside from Pitt, McKay has offers from NC State, West Virginia and Old Dominion. The junior quarterback tells me that Tennessee is showing a lot of interest and could be the next team to offer.

This past season, McKay passed for 2,483 yards, ran for over 1,100 yards and combined for 46 touchdowns (29 passing and 17 rushing).

McKay tells me that he’ll start visiting schools next month but hasn’t finalized his list.

“I would love to come visit Pitt”, McKay told me.

UPDATE 8:10 PM-

Is Pitt back in play with Woodland Hills LB Jo-El Shaw? He just tweeted this.

UPDATE 8:40 AM

Pitt recruit LB Chase Pine said on Twitter that he’s “happy to say I’m 100% fully committed to Pitt.”

UPDATE (9:23 PM)

**Interesting development concerning Woodland Hills RB/LB Jo-El Shaw. Tonight Shaw told me that he’s once again considering Pitt. Reason for the change? “I decided to trust Coach Narduzzi that he’s bringing me in to play running back.”

The reason Shaw wasn’t considering Pitt was because they were recruiting him as a linebacker and not running back. That’s changed, so has Shaw’s opinion of Pitt.

The big running back says that his final 3 are (in no order): Pitt, Syracuse and Western Michigan.

Shaw told me, “I’m going to visit Pitt.”
