Pitt FB Recruiting
Monday Pitt/WPIAL Recruiting Notes
I’m off today from KDKA TV so I’ll be able to give 100% attention to the website today. Let’s get after it.
**Source tells me that Pat Narduzzi and OC Matt Canada have an in home visit tonight with QB Thomas MacVittie. I think it’s becoming quite clear that MacVittie is a HUGE priority in this recruiting class.
**The offer yesterday to 2017 QB Matt McKay (Raleigh, NC) is an interesting one. McKay is the ultimate dual-threat quarterback as evidenced by his 46 combined touchdowns this past season.
McKay is the 4th quarterback that Pitt has offered in the 2017 class. Keep in mind that two of the kids with offers have already verbally committed to a school.
Davis Mills (Norcross, GA)
Jake Allen (Ft. Lauderdale, Fl) Florida
Sean Clifford (Cincinnati, OH) Penn State
McKay is a kid that we’re going to pay special attention due when we get into the recruiting for 2017.
**Here’s a name to keep your eye on: Derrick Green. He’s a former 5-star running back for Michigan. However, he’s graduating this spring and announced he’s going to be a graduate transfer.
I received a message from Green last night and he told me that he’s interested in looking at Pitt and making a visit. I’m hoping to do an in-depth interview with Green later today.
Green played sparingly last season for first year coach Jim Harbaugh. In 9 games this season, Green rushed for 158 yards on 47 carries and scored 2 touchdowns. For his career, Green has totaled 898 yards on 212 carries and 7 touchdowns.
UPDATE (10:21 AM)-
**Pitt coaches are back on the road today. I’m told that Rob Harley is back in Virginia and will see 2016 recruit Chase Pine again.
Also, RB coach Andre Powell might be the Pitt assistant that you want to keep your eye on today. I’m being told that Powell will be in North Carolina today.
I haven’t confirmed this but I’d have to guess that he’ll be seeing RB Robert Washington. The talented running back was supposed to make an official visit to Pitt over the weekend but wasn’t able to make it. Powell has been the primary recruiter for Washington, who remains a target for Pitt. Washington is scheduled to visit Alabama and TCU over the next two weekends. Maybe Powell can get him to drop one of those and visit Pitt instead. I’m attempting to reach Washington today.
UPDATE (10:52 AM)-
**While in North Carolina today, I’m going to assume that Powell pays a visit to 2016 recruit DE Zack Gilbert. Working to confirm that.
UPDATE (11:06 AM)-
**Coach Powell will visit DE Zack Gilbert today in Charlotte.
UPDATE (12:12 PM)-
**Virginia WR K’Von Wallace is a popular kid these days. After getting an offer from Pitt last week, Wallace has received offers from hometown school Va. Tech and now today from Arizona.
Wallace is verbally committed to Cincinnati and made his official visit there this past weekend.
I talked to Wallace and he talked about the Va Tech offer.
“I’ve been waiting for Va Tech to offer for a long time and they finally came through”, said Wallace.
So where will Wallace now visit the next two weekends?
“I’m visiting Tech this weekend and Pitt next weekend.”
UPDATE (1:01 PM)
**A kid that Pitt was “recruiting” is off the board. Illinois DE Desmond Chapple has committed to Northern Iowa. After Pitt landed Zack Gilbert and still pursuing Quayshon Alexander, I’m not sure if Pitt’s offer to him was still available.
UPDATE (1:28 PM)-
**Pine-Richland 2018 QB Phil Jurkovec picked up an offer today from Tennessee. By this time next year, Jurkovec will have an offer from every major school in the country.
UPDATE 4:19 PM
**Vero Beach WR MJ McGriff is a potential Pitt recruit that we told you about a few days ago. Today, McGriff received an offer from Illinois. The talented WR also met with NC State.
UPDATE (4:29 PM)-
**Akron 4-star athlete Jonah Morris announced this on Twitter today-
“I don’t have a Top 4 anymore, and probably won’t sign on signing day. Need some more time to see what’s really best for me.”
Looking to see if Pitt is getting an official visit from him.
UPDATE 6:50 PM
**It’s time to start looking ahead to Pitt’s next official visit weekend this Friday. Who’s going to visit ?
Just got a message from Chicago DT Amir Watts who told me he’s visiting Pitt this weekend. Watts is a HUGE priority for Pitt. They badly want him to be a future member of their defensive line.
Watts told me that he’s going to figure out his last trip after his visit to Pitt.
