Pitt Looking At 4-Star LB

Published

A big portion of this week for Pitt coaches has been targeting key recruits for the 2017 recruiting class. One of those players is Delaware 4-star linebacker Avery Roberts.

Roberts (6-1, 215) is rated as one of the top linebackers  and  also one of the top 250 prospects in the country.

In fact, Roberts was one of the first kids that Pat Narduzzi and his staff offered after getting hired last year.

Right now, Roberts has offers from Pitt, Clemson, Arizona State, Miami, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Stanford and Virginia Tech.

Yesterday, Rob Harley, who’s recruiting Roberts, stopped by his schools.  Afterwards, I had a chance to speak with Roberts about Pitt and other things.

“I’m very excited to get the real recruitment process going. Having a lot of schools to choose from makes it even better”, said Roberts. “Getting to see what each school has different to offer, that’s something I can’t wait so see.”

What’s your relationship with Pitt?

“I like Pitt. Still building a relationship with the staff but so far, I like what I hear. I think they will continue to get better and compete for the ACC Championship soon”, said Roberts.

“Coach Harley’s message has been I can go somewhere and sit behind someone and learn or I can come to Pitt and play right away. That’s the only way you can truly get better is by playing.”

Roberts is a kid with a ton of talent. He feels the strength of his game is stopping the run. He also thinks he’s pretty good at covering backs coming out of the backfield.

As of today, Roberts isn’t sure yet of which schools he plans on visiting but tells me that he’ll take a good amount of visits in the spring and summer.

Like 2017 4-star defensive tackle Fred Hansard,  the recruiting battle for Avery Roberts will be intense. I’m sure Narduzzi and Harley will be up for it.
