Could be a big day for Pitt as one of their targets will make his college decision tonight.
LB Elias Reynolds will decide between Pitt and Illinois tonight at 7 PM.
**Pitt extended offers to three 2017 recruits today.
–Jake Marwede, TE (6-5, 235) from Loyola Academy in Illinois. Marwede is a 3-star recruit with offers from Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Penn State and Syracuse.
–Joel Honigford, OL (6-6, 263) from Sugar Creek, Ohio. I had a chance to contact Honigford shortly after he received the offer.
“I found out that Coach Peterson was the coach that offered me”, said Honigford. “I am very shocked with the offer because I didn’t expect it but I’m certainly feeling very blessed.”
Honigford admits that although he’s heard from Pitt on and off for a while, he doesn’t know too much about the program.
“I have received offers from Miami of Ohio, Northwestern, Toledo, Nebraska, Iowa State, Wake Forest , Duke and Illinois.”
“I haven’t been on Pitt’s campus yet but I do plan on visiting soon.”
–Robert Martin, OL (6-6, 260), Montvale, New Jersey. I interviewed Martin and will have a separate story on him.
—Pete Werner, S/OLB (6-3, 210), Indianapolis, Indiana. Werner is the highly rated prospect, a 4-star according to Rivals. I hope to talk to Wener shortly.
UPDATE (2:54 PM)-
**A player that had some interest in Pitt has committed elsewhere. While on his official visit, OT Michael Clark has verbally committed to Syracuse. TE coach Tim Salem visited Clark at his home in Downington on Thursday. If Pitt had scholarships available, Clark might have received one from the Panthers. I know Clark was hoping to get one from Pitt because he has family currently living in the Pittsburgh area. Best of luck to Michael at Syracuse.
UPDATE (3:06 PM)-
**A fifth offer to 2017 prospect today by Pitt. OT Thayer Munford (6-6, 329) from Cincinnati, Ohio. Munford is a 3-star prospect according to Rivals with offers from Cincinnati, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Iowa State and Louisville.
Update (3:31 PM)-
**Make that six offers today. Latest one is to OT Marcus Minor (6-4, 285). Minor is a 4-star recruit from Hyattsville, Maryland with offers from West Virginia, Duke, North Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
Update (4:18 PM)-
**While on his official visit to Syracuse, Woodland Hills RB Jo-El Shaw decided to give the Orange a verbal commitment. Shaw was scheduled to visit Pitt next weekend. I not positive about this but I believe Shaw was another victim of Pitt’s scholarship crunch. Once he didn’t commit early, the offer might not have still been available. I’d like to wish Shaw nothing but success at Syracuse and I think that’s a great place for him. I’m sure he’ll make Woodland Hills and the WPIAL proud.
