Watts Commits To Pitt And Other Notes

Published

on

Hopefully this will be the last time we’re off-line for so long but here’s stuff that I’ve come up with tonight.

**The big news of the night is that 4-star DT Amir Watts gave Pitt a verbal commitment tonight.  This is huge news for Pat Narduzzi and the Pitt coaching staff.  Props has to be given to defensive line Coach Tom Sims for his recruiting of Watts. The defensive line was a  position that Pitt needed to address with the loss of KK Mosley-Smith and Darryl Render. This gives Pitt 21 verbal commitments and 13 of those kids are on the defensive side of the ball.  Watts becomes Pitt’s seventh 4-star recruit in the Class of 2016.

**Pitt coaches are still trying to land another high profile defensive tackle for 2016.  Keyshon Camp was in town this weekend and the Pitt coaches will be back to see him tomorrow. I’ve confirmed that Narduzzi, Josh Conklin and Renaldo Hill will be in Florida to meet with Camp.  While in Florida, those 3  will also travel to see cornerback Henry Miller.  The talented cornerback made an official visit to Miami, Fla  this weekend and the Pitt coaches will try and get him to keep his commitment to Pitt.  Ohio State hasn’t offered Miller yet, so it appears to be  down to Pitt and Miami.

**Virginia athlete K’Von Wallace received a huge offer tonight from Clemson.  Earlier in the week, Wallace told  me that despite adding new offers from Arizona and Virginia Tech, he would decide between Cincinnati (where he’s currently committed), Pitt and Maryland.  Will the offer from Clemson change this?

I was able to find out that after the offer from Clemson, Pitt WR coach Kevin Sherman was on the phone with Wallace.  In fact, Sherman will personally visit him on Wednesday.

**I talked with New Jersey DE Quayshon Alexander tonight about where his recruitment stands. He told me that on Signing Day, he’ll decide between Pitt, Michigan, Indiana, Nebraska and Rutgers.

**I’m hearing that Hubbard, Ohio athlete Cam Ingram is going to be joining Pitt has a preferred walk-on. The Pitt coaching staff hasn’t determined his position yet.  Ingram will be back in Pittsburgh in a few weeks to visit.

**Per Rivals.com,  Pitt offered 2017 DE Addison Gumbs (California), who becomes the 7th prospects Pitt has offered in the last 2 days.

UPDATE  (10:23 PM)-
**With the addition of Watts, Pitt is now ranked #29 in Rivals.com recruiting rankings.  With the possibility of landing a few more 4-star recruits, Pitt has a legitimate chance to crack the Top 25.

UPDATE (10:34 PM)-
**One more thing regarding the addition of Watts.  With Pitt currently sitting at 21 verbal commitments, how many more kids can Narduzzi add to this class?  I’d have to say the answer to that is 5. If Damar Hamlin, Khaleke Hudson, Darnell Salomon, K’Von Wallace and Keyshon Camp all want to commit, Pitt will take them, right?
