Saturday Pitt/WPIAL Recruiting News

I’ll start off by saying, thank you for your patience.

The next 4 days should be very interesting.

** Let’s first start by closing up loose ends from last night.  The two Pitt players that are on official visits to other schools are Chase Pine and Juwan Winfree.  Pine is at Virginia Tech while Winfree is visiting Memphis.

The question is, should Pitt be worried about losing commitments from either of these two? I’d answer by saying anytime one of your recruits is visiting another school it’s concerning.  If they were 100% committed, they wouldn’t be on another campus.

I’m more surprised by Pine because on Thursday he told me that he was done taking visits and that he’s 100% committed to Pitt.   As far as Winfree, when I asked him last night about where things stood with him, he messaged me, “I’ m still committed to Pitt  and I feel I will sign with them.”

Honestly, I’ll believe these 2 are Pitt Panthers when the fax comes in Wednesday morning.

UPDATE (1:58 PM)

** Now to the piece of news I didn’t want to publish on Thursday for risk of doing harm to both parties.  One of 3 “surprise” visitors on Pitt’s campus this weekend is Michigan commit Khaleke Hudson.

Before committing on Wednesday, Pat Narduzzi met with Hudson for 2 hours and talked to him about a variety of things.  One of which was making an official visit to Pitt this weekend regardless of who he picked later that day.  It looks like Hudson did that for Narduzzi.   Do I expect Hudson to flip to Pitt because of this visit? Probably not, but they will be around this star player for the next 2 days.  Let’s see what happens.

UPDATE (2:15 PM)-

** Now the question is who are the other two recruits on campus? Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find out any names.  I can tell you that like when he was searching for an offensive coordinator, Pat Narduzzi has EVERYONE keeping quiet about this.   My normal sources of information are tight lipped.

One of the rumored names is Penn State commit linebacker Shaka Toney.  I haven’t been able to confirm that he’s in Pittsburgh.  It’s such a mystery that I had one of the Penn State coaches message me and ask me if Toney was here.

The other two obvious names are Miles Sanders and Aaron Mathews.  A source told me yesterday afternoon that Sanders wasn’t coming and that Mathews was scheduled to come but cancelled at the last minute? Did he change his mind again at the last minute and attend?

As soon as I get credible information, I’ll post it.

UPDATE (2:26 PM)-

** One recruit that finished up his visit is defensive end Rashad Weaver.  The former Michigan commitment was in Pittsburgh for a few days and is headed to State College today for a visit.  It appears that Weaver will decide between Pitt, Penn State and Temple.

I had a chance to message Weaver briefly  last night and he said that he “loves the city feel” of Pittsburgh. Also said that he’d be discussing things with his mom before any decision is made.

UPDATE (2:30 PM)-

**I’m being told that one of the mystery visitors to Pitt is Penn State linebacker commit Shaka Toney.  He’s from Philadelphia and Pitt has been in pursuit of him.  Narduzzi went to visit him last week and Tom Sims was in Philadelphia this week to see him.  Stay tuned.

UPDATE (3:55 PM)-

** Source tells me that Penn St commit Miles Sanders did not make an official visit to Pitt this weekend.

* * Here’s some Pitt uniform news.  I’m told that Pitt will wear the mustard gold uniforms at least once this year.  They didn’t wear them at all in 2015.

UPDATE (6:10 PM)-

** Pat Narduzzi and Pitt are now victims of one of their recruits flipping. 4-star recruit Juwann Winfree has flipped his commitment from Pitt to Colorado. This is interesting because Winfree was on an official visit this weekend to Memphis.

** I’m also getting word of a Pitt player visiting Penn State this weekend, will have details later.

UPDATE (8:58 PM)

**It looks like my source on a Pitt player visiting Penn State wasn’t right. I was told that safety Phil Campbell was at Penn State this weekend.  Now, I’m being told that isn’t right.   If that’s wrong, I apologize.

UPDATE (9:56 PM)-

**Source tells me that Florida 4-star WR Darnell Salomon will be announcing his college decision tomorrow at Noon.

UPDATE (10:16 PM)-

**Just spoke to Virginia WR/CB K’Von Wallace who game me his finalists.  “My final 5 are Michigan State, Clemson, Cincinnati, Ohio State and Pitt.”

I then asked him how can Pitt be a finalist if you canceled your official visit?

Wallace said, “Because I know the people, I know the coaches.”   He went on to tell me that he’s developed a good relationship with the Pitt coaching staff.

Wallace will make his decision on National Signing Day.
