Thorpe Gets Alabama Offer

We’ve talked a lot about how much high-end talent the WPIAL’s Class of 2017 has with names like Paris Ford, David Adams and Lamont Wade.

Here’s more proof, Central Catholic guard C.J. Thorpe picked up an offer from the defending champions, Alabama.   I think that tells you the talent level of Thorpe.

“It was huge, very exciting , me and the coach had been playing phone tag for a while with the different time zones and schedules so I had a lot of time to think about what he was going to say before he called so I was a little surprised but mostly excited for the offer”, said Thorpe.

“Coach Cristobal called and we talked for a while about my interest in Bama and theirs in me, then he said “I’d just like you to know from me and the staff that you have an offer from Alabama.”

Not many local kids get an offer from Nick Saban, so I’m guessing Thorpe’s phone was pretty active last night.

“Yeah my phone has been blowing up since I got it , for sure the most attention I’ve gotten after an offer. I actually was gonna wait to tweet it until the morning but apparently it didn’t matter haha “, said Thorpe.

The interesting thing about this offer is to see how  it impacts his decision making.  Many people believe that Penn State is Thorpe’s top school.   Will the offer from Alabama change things ?

“Penn state is definitely  in my top 5 ( although I don’t know who else is). My dad went there so I know about the campus more than any other school and Ilove that. Also, the whole atmosphere of the town and the school on game day and in general is really cool to me”,  said Thorpe.

Speaking of Penn State, Thorpe will be in State College for Junior Day on Saturday.

“I’m excited to get up to Penn State and see my old teammate JP.  I’m also am excited to talk to the two new coaches who are from my school.”

After that, the 4-star player tells me he plans on visiting some SEC schools in April or May.   As far as making his final decision, Thorpe says that may not come until during the season.
