The Pitt coaching staff took steps towards opening the Florida pipeline back up last recruiting class by signing 4 quality recruits.

They’ve already offered numerous top level kids in the Class of 2017, the latest being blue-chip offensive tackle Jerry Drake.

Drake (6-7, 300) is an offensive tackle from Palm Beach Garden, Florida and he tells his latest offer is from Pitt.  Drake tells me that he already has offers from Alabama, LSU, North Carolina, West Virginia, Florida State and Auburn.

Yeah,  Drake is a big-time offensive line prospect.  With offers from schools like Alabama, LSU, Florida State, you’d think they’d be his leaders, right?  Not so fast says Drake, it won’t just come down to football for him.

I’m a student and my education is important as well as playing football”, Drake said. “I’m hoping to take official visits to my top choices.  College years are the most important years so I want to choose wisely.”

“I’m interested in an engineering degree and I know Pitt has one of the best programs for engineering.”

“The Pitt offer did come as a surprise to me. I spoke with someone from Pitt early on in 2015 but hadn’t heard from them much until the offer”, said Drake.

“I am excited about my offer from Pitt though. Coach Peterson spoke with me and then made the offer. He said your officially offered by Pitt. We didn’t get to talk much about what they specifically liked about me because the offer came late in the evening”, Drake told me.

I asked Drake what coaches are telling him they like most about his film?

“That I can I can move for my size and that I’m a good pass protector. I compare myself to Trent Williams (Washington Redskins) but I’m probably going to be a more complete player once I gain more knowledge. ”

Drake closed out our talk saying something that will make Pitt fans and coaches happy.

“I’m very seriously considering Pitt and can’t wait to visit.”

Stay tuned!
