On the recruiting trail, the Pitt coaches are multi-tasking. Offering and trying to secure commitments for the Class of 2017 but also eyeing recruits for 2018.
One of those 2018 prospects is Pickerington, Ohio tight end Trenton Gillison, who was just offered by Pitt. In fact, Gillison tells me that it was head coach Pat Narduzzi who offered him the scholarship to Pitt.
The thing that stands out the most about Gillison is his size: a 6-5, 230 tight end.
Aside from Pitt, Gillison has a handful of offers (Michigan, Mississippi, Kentucky, Indiana, Cincinnati) but before long he’ll become a national recruit. He’s that good.
“Recruiting is a new and exciting experience and is going really well”, said Gillison. “Coaches tell me that I’m a all-around tight end. I can get down the field and catch the ball and I can block.”
Being only a sophomore, Gillison’s recruitment is just starting but he’s starting to check out schools. One of those schools is Pitt. In fact, he was in town on Tuesday checking out Pitt’s first practice.
“I attended the practice and took a tour of the athletic facilities and the campus”, said Gillison. “I especially liked talking with Coach Narduzzi and Coach Salem. All the coaches were very nice and took the time to answer all of my questions.”
“I have nine offers right now including Pitt and I really enjoyed my visit there.”
As we’ve been saying, tight end is a need position for Pitt. It goes without saying that Trenton Gillison would be a tremendous get for Pitt.
