Simmons Visits Pitt

The state of New Jersey is full of football talent and a place that’s historically been very good to Pitt.  On Monday, a couple players from one of New Jersey’s top high schools made a trip to visit Pitt.

Syhiem Simmons (6-1, 210) is a running back/safety from Hudson Catholic in Jersey City, New Jersey.  Simmons and his teammate, Khashawn Decker, spent the day in Pittsburgh and looking for an offer from Pat Narduzzi and Pitt.  Pittsburgh Sports Now talked with Simmons and got his impressions of the city and Pitt.

“We made this trip to see the city of Pittsburgh, the football team and the campus. We felt as though we needed to see everything with our own eyes”, said Simmons.

So after spending the day here, what was his impressions?

“My impressions of Pittsburgh were that the view from the campus, it was like the campus was on top of the hill. I loved seeing the bridges and the river flowing and the chapel was hand carved. I loved seeing the cathedral going all the way up and how the classrooms were built, it was great seeing for your own eyes”, said Simmons.  “The practice facility was amazing and the indoor facility was great seeing the Steelers, the meeting rooms,  the game rooms and the locker room. It was a blessing to see all of that.”

Simmons told me that this visit to Pitt really motivated him to work to get better and to try and be more consistent with his play.  Simmons didn’t get an offer from Pitt but plans on keep working to try and earn one. While he does hold an offer from Rutgers, an offer from Pitt would be important for him and his family.

“I’m a student athlete of the game I have 3  brothers and a single mom at home. This is a  job for me!”

During his visit, Simmons met a former Pitt great that’s currently preparing for his next job in the NFL: Tyler Boyd.

“Tyler Boyd said to keep working and stay humble. Good things will open for me and keep my head straight. Never look back and to go get what I’m worked for”, said Simmons.

All the best to Syhiem Simmons in this upcoming season, I have a feeling we’ll be hearing a lot more from him.
