Stone Excited About Pitt Offer

Published

Since Matt Canada was hired as Pitt’s offensive coordinator,  they’ve offered four quarterbacks and all four are from the South.

Hendon Hooker (North Carolina), Matt McKay (North Carolina), Kingsley Ifedi (North Carolina) and Lindell Stone (Virginia) are also players that were familiar with Canada when he was with NC State.

Stone received to offer from Pitt last night.

Stone (6-2, 205) is a class Pro-Style passer that put up impressive numbers last year while leading Woodberry Forest School to state championship.  In 2015, Stone threw for 3,494 yards, 40 TD’s and a 66% completion percentage.

” I was very excited about the offer from Pitt”, said Stone. “I know Coach Canada and Coach Powell really well and had been talking to them since they had been at NC State and Maryland. I have good relationships with them and know I could ask them anything about Pitt.”

Stone tells me that the offer came from Pitt’s new offensive boss.

“I spoke on the phone with Coach Canada and he said he just liked the way that I play and my decision making. He wants me to get up to Pitt, meet Coach Narduzzi, and see how they run things.”

Stone has had problems making visits to schools because his school has classes on Saturday.   That arrangement makes it nearly impossible for him to visits colleges on the weekend.

While Stone has never been to Pitt, he is familiar with some things about the football program.

“I know the Pitt program pretty well because of my familiarity with the ACC and going to school in ACC territory. I learned alot about James Conner and what he is going through and it’s pretty inspirational the way he’s fighting through his adversity. I also played 7v7 with Tre Tipton and we became good friends”, said Stone.

After watching Stone’s tape, you can see why Pitt and many other schools have offered him.  Very impressive vision and poise in the pocket.  I asked Stone what he feels his biggest strength as a quarterback is.

“Probably the way I see the game, coverages and fronts. I’ve had a lot of great coaches to teach me and have been able to learn from them and older players.”

Along with Pitt, Cincinnati, Indiana, Maryland, Ole Miss, Virginia, Temple, Purdue, UCLA, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Wisconsin have all offered Stone.

“I hope to visit Pitt soon and meet the rest of the coaches, especially Coach Narduzzi”, said Stone. “I haven’t visited anywhere yet this spring but will hopefully get on the road soon.”
