McCaskill Visits Pitt

Since becoming head coach, Pat Narduzzi and DL coach Tom Sims have done a lot of recruiting in the state of Michigan.   Considering Narduzzi’s history at Michigan State and the fact that Sims is from Detroit, recruiting there makes sense.

This weekend, a player from Michigan made the trip to Pitt and was impressed with what he saw.

Lorenzo McCaskill (6-2, 205) is linebacker from Southfield, Michigan visited Pitt with his dad and a couple teammates.   I had a chance to talk to McCaskill about his first visit to Pittsburgh.

“My visit was great. My dad and a couple of my teammates came with me”, said McCaskill. “We watched practice and went around the city and checked out campus. I’d never seen Pittsburgh before,  it’s a beautiful place.”

“What impressed me most about the visit was the intensity of practice and the coaching staff. Also, the city it was something I never seen before, something very different from what I’m used to seeing.”

McCaskill tells me that right now, he has offers from Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Buffalo, Toledo, Ball State, Miami of Ohio and Bowling Green.

So what about Pitt? Did Coach Narduzzi extend an offer?

“No,  I don’t have an offer yet but  it’s suppose to be coming soon”, said McCaskill. “They said they like the why I play aggressive on the field and my style of play.”

So what is your style of play and describe yourself to Pitt fans.

” I’m always trying to get better and  I want every part on my game to be perfect . When I’m on the field I play my heart out every play because it’s a game that I love.  I’m not perfect at everything but I work to be and I won’t stand for anyone to be better than me. If they are, I’m just going to work harder”, said McCaskill.

Chances are this is the first time you’ve heard about Lorenzo McCaskill but you’re probably familiar with his uncle, former Michigan State All-American basketball player Steve Smith.   McCaskill has visited East Lansing plenty of times but as of now, Michigan State hasn’t offered.

So what would an offer from Pitt mean to him?

“If I get an offer from Pitt, it is definitely a school that would be in my top choices.”
