Pitt Hoops Looking At Dembele

Published

on

It’s been a long time since the Pitt basketball team had a talented real big man to play under the hoop. The new Pitt coaching staff is out recruiting trying to find that guy.

Pitt assistant Jeremy Ballard, with the reputation of a good recruiter, is out this morning evaluating 6-11 Cheickna Dembele.

Dembele is developing talent for Scotland Performance Institute (Chambersburg, PA). Last season, he averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds.

I mentioned that Dembele is developing, he arrived in the United States from Mali, Africa last November.   Since getting here, Dembele has added 25 pounds.

Dembele is a player that’s catching the eye of a lot of coaches including Jim Boeheim.   Syracuse recently was the latest school to offer him a scholarship.   He now has offers from Syracuse, Missouri, Iowa State, NC State, Providence, St. John’s and Boston College.   He doesn’t have one from Pitt but that could change after today’s visit from Ballard.

If Pitt is going to try and get in on Dembele, they’ll have to do it quick because the college basketball spring signing period begins April 13.

Dembele reportedly would like to make a decision and sign with a team by the end of April.
