“I was very pleased and somewhat surprised to receive the offer”, said Kirven. “I had been in contact with Coach Salem for a couple of months and he was the one who offered me today.”

“I’m a traditional tight end, so I go out and catch passes as well as block.”

With the graduation of JP Holtz and Scott Orndorff being a senior, Pat Narduzzi is looking to add some tight end prospects to the roster. Kirven now is the 9th TE recruit that Pitt has offered this year.

Pitt Tight End Offers-
Trey Pugh (Plain City, Ohio)  Northwestern
Charles Reeves  (Steubenville, Ohio)
Alex Marshall   (Andover, NH)
Jake Marwede (Wilmette, Illinois)
John Kirven  (Woodberry Forest, Va)
Erik Krommenhoek (Danville, Ca.)
Andrew Park (Burke, Va)  Maryland
Mike’Quan Deane  (Miami, Ok)
Jeremy Patton (Yuma, Az)

I asked Kirven if Pitt’s need for a tight end could be a factor in his decision?

“Yes, that could play a role in my decision, however, my main focus is to find the right school and coaching staff that will push me to my potential”, said Kirven.

Aside from Pitt, Kirven holds offers from Virginia, Illinois and Buffalo and he believes that more schools are close to offering him.

So what does Kirven know about Pitt and the city of Pittsburgh?

“I know a little about the program. I’m very familiar with the ACC and I know that Coach Narduzzi was previously at Michigan State”, said Kirven.  “I’ve been to the city of Pittsburgh once for a basketball tournament, but I have not been to any of the University’s facilities. I will most likely take a visit sometime this summer.”

“I will make my decision once I’m certain that the University, coaching staff, and team that I’m choosing is a great fit.  My decision would be before the summer or even until the winter depending on what happens.”
