Pitt Offers 3 Players

Published

Connecticut is a state Pitt doesn’t get many recruits from but that doesn’t mean they won’t try.  Yesterday, they offered 2 players from “The Nutmeg State.”

Early in the day, Pitt offered Sandy Hook, CT  3-star middle linebacker Ben Mason.   After watching Mason’s film, he just fits the mold of a Pat Narduzzi middle linebacker.

Mason (6-3, 245) holds offers from Boston College, California, Duke, Harvard, Michigan, Rutgers, Wisconsin and Yale.   Harvard and Yale, yeah Mason can get it done in the classroom too.

Last week, Mason took a visit to Michigan and they’ll obviously be a major contender for him.

**The second offer yesterday went to C.J. Holmes a 3-star athlete from Hamden, CT (Cheshire Academy).  Pitt joins Boston College, Mississippi State, Penn State, Rutgers, Syracuse and Tennessee as schools that have offered Holmes.

“My reaction was surprise and ecstatic to have another opportunity to attend a great school”, said Holmes.  “Coach Salem called me and we talked about how the coaching staff loves me and is excited to recruit me.”

Holmes is listed as an athlete and told me where Pitt is recruiting him at.

“They like me at running back and on the defensive side of the ball, they love how versatile I am and that I can impact both sides of the ball and potentially play special teams as well”, said Holmes.

“I feel like my strengths are my speed, my versatitility, my toughness and my playmaking ability.   I see myself as a big time playmaker that does damage with the ball in my hands.”

Holmes tells me that prior to the Pitt offer, his leaders (in no order) were Tennessee, Penn State and Syracuse.  But he wanted to make it clear that he’s still open to new offers and will continue to weigh his options.

What about Pitt?

“I haven’t been to Pitt before but I’ll consider them and have to visit before any serious action can take place.”

**Pitt basketball coach Kevin Stallings spent the weekend at some AAU Tournaments and made an offer to a 2017 prospect.

Aamir Simms (6-8, 215) is a 4-star forward from Palmyra, Virginia.  Simms has offers from Cincinnati, Clemson, Georgetown, Penn State, Providence, VCU and Xavier.

Per Rivals, Simms is rated as a Top 100 prospect.
