Pitt running back coach Andre Powell spotted a prospect in the state of Maryland that he’d like to work with and has offered him a scholarship.

Devin Darrington (5-9, 200) from Bel Air, Maryland got the news  from Powell yesterday.

“Coach Powell offered me. We have been following each other on Twitter for a long time. We want to build our relationship even more and really enjoy the process. ”

Darrington tells me that he has  offers from schools like Harvard, Holy Cross, Penn, Yale and Darmouth but Pitt was the first Power 5 school to show faith and make him an offer and that’s a big deal to him.

“Yes sir, Pitt is my first power five offer”, said Darrington. ” It means a lot to me and my family. Recently it seems that all I have worked for is paying off and it feels great. Now the work continues and I have to push myself even harder.”

“I know Pitt is a great school with great academics and obviously great football. Yes sir I am very interested in Pitt”, said Darrington.

The Maryland back tells me that  Pitt coaches like his explosiveness, strength, toughness and his character.  He says that his strength is that he’s a versatile back, meaning he’s fast, can catch the ball and is a strong blocker.  He believes that his game/skill  set compares  to former Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliot.  Darrington went on to add.

“If I don’t find a way to go around you I will go through you.”

Darrington says that Powell is expected to visit his school on Monday and that he plans on visiting Pitt sometime this summer for a camp.  So, don’t look for an early commitment from this talented back.

“I’m just taking my time. I don’t want to rush into a commitment because you know I’m making the decision of my life. The place I choose to go will impact my whole life so I want to make sure I put myself in the best situation.”
