Wednesday Pitt Recruiting Notes

Published

on

Before starting today’s recruiting notes, we wanted to thank everyone for the great day of traffic that we recorded yesterday.  It was our best day of traffic in awhile, hopefully that will continue

**Clearfield 2017 athlete Ryan Lezzer tells me that he’s had recent talks with WR coach Kevin Sherman.

“Mostly just to reassure me that (despite no offer yet) they’re interested in me and they want me to come visit soon. Didn’t say I really need to camp, just visit”, said Lezzer.

Lezzer hopes to get to Pittsburgh by the end of the month or at the latest in early July.

UPDATE (12:01 PM)-
**Georgia 2017 wide receiver Connor Heyward is making a visit to Pitt today.  He’s been in town for a few days visiting family but will be with Pitt today.   I spoke to Heyward this morning and will do so again following his visit.

**Late last night, I received a tip that another high profile recruit would be visiting today. I need to double confirm that before I release his name.   I have a message into that recruit and waiting to hear back.

UPDATE (12:05 PM)-
**Pitt recruiting expert Harry Psaros (@PittGuru) reports that the Pitt basketball team will receive a June 9th visit from 2017 shooting guard Naji Marshall from Eleanor Roosevelt HS in Greenbelt, Maryland.

Marshall is a Rivals 4-star recruit and ranked as one of the Top 100 players in the country.

UPDATE (12:18 PM)-
**Florida 4-star athlete Bruce Judson ( Cocoa, Florida) just ran a poll on Twitter asking people to vote on where he should take his first visit.  Judson’s choices were Florida, Pitt, Arizona or Auburn and said the he’d visit the winner. Well the winner was Pitt, so I asked him if he’s visiting Pitt first?

“Yeah, I hold my word”, said Judson.

I then asked him when he expects to travel to Pittsburgh?

“Not exactly sure yet but most likely within 2-3 weeks for sure but Coach Narduzzi wants me to be up there for a camp.”

I like the way things are developing between Pitt, Judson and Coach Narduzzi.

UPDATE  (4:33 PM)-
**Minutes after finishing up his visit to Pitt, I spoke briefly with 2017 Georgia wide receiver Connor Heyward.

Q: How would you rate your visit today?

Heyward answer: “It was a 10 out of 10 rating. I had a really good time”

Q: Name one thing that really stood out or impressed you most?

Heyward answer: “The new renovations to the Pitt facility.”

Q: Since you’ve been to Pittsburgh so many times,  anything in particular that you were looking to see or hear from the coaches?

Heyward answer: “No, I wasn’t looking for anything in particular.  My mom asked a lot of questions. She wanted to make sure that Coach Narduzzi wasn’t leaving Pitt like all of the other coaches and she asked them what makes Pitt special?”

Q: How were/are the Pitt coaches trying to recruit you?

Heyward answer:  “The coaches don’t really try and pressure me to commit. They all said at the end of the day, it was all my choice and that they’re on full board if I end up picking Pitt.”

Q: Would it be fair to say that although you’ve said you don’t have a leading school, that Pitt is somewhere near the top of your list if you did?

Heyward answer:  “I don’t really have a top 5 or a leading school.  Every school is equal in my recruitment.  However, I did enjoy my visit to Pitt!”

Q: What’s next for you in terms or visiting another school or possibly committing someplace?

Heyward answer:  “I don’t have a date to commit or a date to come out with a top five.  I might just shock everyone and commit on a random day.”

UPDATE (6:26 PM)-
**Maryland running back Devin Darrington, who holds an offer from Pitt, told me that he’ll be in town this weekend attending the Pitt football camp.

“Right now, Pitt’s one of the top schools on my list. I don’t see myself committing to anybody right now until I visit some more schools. I haven’t visited some schools that have offered me yet.  I’m very, very interested in Pitt and can’t wait to visit. I just want to make sure I make the best choice for my future and visit all of my options”, said Darrington.

UPDATE (7:05 PM)-
**Per Chris Peak of Pantherlair.com, 4-star linebacker Tyshon Fogg (Towson, Maryland) will be visiting Pitt this coming Saturday.  Fogg is rated as one of the top outside linebackers in the country and has an offer list of Stanford, North Carolina, Michigan State, Maryland, Iowa, Clemson and California.

UPDATE (7:15PM)-
**3-star defensive tackle Derrius Mullins (Columbus, Ohio) tells me that he will be visiting Pitt in the next couple of weeks. He also said that as of right now, Indiana is his leading school.

UPDATE (7:27 PM)-
**I’ve just confirmed a big upcoming visitor for the Pitt football team. 2018 TE Jeremy Ruckert tells me that he will visit Pitt on June 12th. Ruckert (Lindenhurst, New York) is currently one of the hottest recruits in the entire country. In the last couple of weeks, he’s picked up offers from Alabama, Florida State and Ohio State.   Getting Ruckert to visit is a huge deal for Pitt.
