Weekend Pitt Recruiting Notes

Published

on

I apologize for the lack of information the last 2 days, I was completely tied up at KDKA (my real job) with the Penguins. I pulled a 10 AM till 11:30 PM shift yesterday. I’m off the next 2 days so that means I’m back at it.

**You might have seen my site yesterday about the package I received in the mail yesterday: our Pgh Sports Now t-shirts and sweatshirts arrived! I have to say, they look really sharp. Joe and I are figuring out how we’re going to distribute them. I do know that I’ll be giving some to a few of the recruits that have been cooperative with me, a few of the Pitt assistants and to those of you that have donated to the site. We’ll be in touch.

On to the weekend news and notes:

**According to Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports, Pitt is showing interest in 2017 athlete Allen Stritzinger. The 3-star athlete is from Warren, Michigan and holds offers from Michigan, Cincinnati, Syracuse and most of the teams in the MAC Conference. I’ll attempt to find out more about Stritzinger.

UPDATE (10:08 AM)-

**Some basketball news, Pitt made the “Top 13” of 3-star Dillard HS (Florida) forward RaiQuan Gray. The 6-7, 240 lists these schools: USC, Memphis, Baylor, Tennessee, West Virginia, Florida St, Illinois, Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech and Pitt.

**Speaking of Dillard HS in Florida, another prospect from that school has listed the Pitt football team as one of his “finalists.” 2017 defensive end Stephon Zayas (6-6, 205) released a Top 10 (no order) of Louisville, Pitt, Maryland, Central Florida, Iowa State, Illinois, NC State, Florida International, Florida Atlantic and Rutgers.

**Back to basketball, I spoke to 3-star forward Aaron Wheeler (Barrington, Rhode Island) and he said that he plans on visiting Pitt sometime this month. Wheeler (6-7, 180) will be in Philadelphia next weekend visiting St. Joseph’s, Temple and LaSalle.

UPDATE (10:31 AM)-

**I checked in with Akron, Ohio 3-star RB Todd Sibley to see if anything was new or if he had any upcoming visits planned? “Nothing really planned for these next few weeks as of now! I’m just taking it day by day”, said Sibley.

Sibley is currently committed to Ohio State (Urban Meyer’s 1st commitment in Class of 2017) but now is being asked to grey shirt. Since then, Sibley and his father visited Pitt and enjoyed the trip.

**Another running back that holds an offer from Pitt and also visited recently is Bel Air, Maryland back Devin Darrington. The 3-star back was in town last weekend and worked out for the coaches at the football camp.  I asked Darrington for an update on his status with Pitt.

“I had a great time at the Pitt camp. Me and Coach Powell connect really well. Now I’m taking some other visits and just taking in the recruiting process. But I liked Pitt a lot!

Darrington also holds offers from Indiana, Rutgers, Syracuse and Vanderbilt.

UPDATE (5:34 PM)-

**Chris Peak of Panther-lair.com is reporting that Pitt is hosting a top level 2018 prospect tomorrow. According to Peak, Taron Vincent, a 4-star DT from IMG Academy will be in town. Vincent is a major prospect already holding offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Ohio State, South Carolina, Texas and UCLA.   It’s never a bad thing to get a prospect like Vincent on campus.

UPDATE (9:43 PM)-

**Was just told by a reliable source that Pitt will be getting some interesting recruits this weekend, including 2 highly rated recruits.   One of the names is Taron Vincent, a player that Chris Peak reported on earlier.

The other player is 4-star linebacker Nathan Proctor, who visited last week. Proctor (Indian Head, MD) is an impact, national recruit that Pitt would really like to land.

Another visitor is 2019 athlete Shane Lee from Baltimore, Maryland. Lee just finished up his freshman season but already holds offers from Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Rutgers and Rutgers.

Another visitor will be 2018 defensive back AJ Lytton from Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Lytton also has an impressive list of offers which includes Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Iowa, North Carolina, Penn State, Rutgers, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin.  Lytton has also been offered by Pitt.

2018 defensive tackle Evan Gregory from Hyattsville, Maryland will also visit the South Side. Currently, Gregory just holds an offer from Maryland.

2018 defensive tackle Ben Amadi (6-2, 276) from Upper Marboro, Maryland will also make a visit to Pittsburgh. Amadi is looking for his first offer.
