Friday Pitt Recruiting Notebook

I apologize for the day of inactivity yesterday but I needed a day off, the battery was on low and needed a day to recharge.  ????????????????

**The big news of the day for Pitt is that a big time prospect is on campus and will be visiting the school and the football facilities today. DE Jake Lichtenstein (6-5, 235) from Weston, Florida messaged me last night when he arrived in town. He’s excited for the visit and to see what the Pitt football program is all about.  Lichtenstein holds offers from Alabama, USC, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, West Virginia, Virginia, Nebraska, Mississippi State, Maryland and Louisville. I’ll be talking with Lichtenstein at the end of his visit.

UPDATE (8:07 AM)-
**Speaking of visitors, Pitt hosted a bunch of highly rated recruits from the Cass Tech Football program (Detroit, Michigan) yesterday and a couple of the players received offers.

-First offer went to cornerback Donovan Johnson (5-10, 170) and this wasn’t his first big offer. He already holds ones from Arizona, Cincinnati, Louisville, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

-The second offer was an interesting one because it went to a player that’s already given a verbal commitment to another school. Zach Morton (6-4, 220) is a defensive end/outside linebacker who’s verbaled to Syracuse. I’m hoping to interview Morton about his situation later this morning.

-The other interesting prospect from Cass Tech is OT/DT Jordan Reid, a player that has Pitt in his final Top 5. Back in April, Reid (6-4, 280) announced his finalists were (no order) Pitt, Florida, Michigan, Michigan State and Tennessee, so getting him on campus was important for Pitt. Like Morton, I’m scheduled to get a reaction later from Reid.

UPDATE (8:33 AM)-
**A few days ago, cornerback Josiah Scott (Fairfield, Ohio) announced his final 3 teams were Pitt, Iowa and West Virginia. Last night, Scott messaged me and told me that he’ll be visiting Pitt on June 26.

**The Pitt coaching staff extended another offer to a tight end prospect. Kurt Rafdal (6-7, 230) from Carmel, Indiana received an offer yesterday. Rafdal also holds offers from Boston College, Illinois, Indiana, Louisville, Maryland, Nebraska and Purdue.

UPDATE (7:51 PM)-
**Just traded messages with Florida DE Jake Lichtenstein, who made his first visit to Pittsburgh today.

“I toured everything and met with all the coaches, a business professor along with a life-skills expert,” said Lichtenstein.

“I would rate the visit very highly! I was very impressed with the campus, the Pitt coaches, the facility and the city of Pittsburgh. I think the Steelers being in such close relationship with Pitt stood out the most to me.”

“I loved the atmosphere of Pitt. The coaches are phenomenal and I can really tell they want the absolute best for me,” said Lichtenstein. “Pitt is definitely a place that I’m going to consider!”
