Local Players React To Pitt Camp

The Catch #2

From the great pictures taken yesterday by Pittsburgh Sports Now’s Joe Steigerwald, you saw that hundreds of kids completed and worked out at Pitt.

Most of those players were from area high schools and are either freshman, sophomores or juniors. Following the workout, I was able to get the reaction from some of the local players.

**Asheed Page-Jones, 2017 LB/WR, Woodland Hills High School:

“What stood out the most is how Pitt coaches continuously walked around evaluating and trying to help players. The camp was very organized as well. The coaches were very helpful. Also the Pitt coaching staff made me feel welcomed. They are all cool,” said Page-Jones.

“I received positive feedback. A couple of the coaches and other players pulled me to the side and said ‘I like your aggressiveness’ or even ‘I love the way you lead your defense’.

“I got the chance to speak with Coach Harley who said ‘It’s nice to see you again and told me to stay in touch,’ said Page-Jones.

“Pitt is my hometown school and has been a dream of mine since a kid to become a Panther.”

**Rodney Dennard, 2018 Safety, Woodland Hills High School:

“The thing that stood out to me was the intensity in everyone there. The coaches helping out everyone giving them tips to improve their game was also impressive,” said Dennard. “I liked that they really tried to help you get better.”

“I enjoyed the day, it was real competitive and I like to compete. I really like Pitt and would like to get closer with the coaching staff.”

**JuJuan Hill, 2017 Defensive Back, Woodland Hills High School:

“I liked Pitt’s  organization today! Everything was what I expected it to be. I enjoyed my day a lot and would love to one day play for Pitt if I had the blessing and opportunity,” said Hill.

“I spoke with Coach Harley today a little about our record and how we wanted to go 5-0. Overall I like Pitt and it’s my hometown team so I gotta love it!”

**Daivon Stephens, 2018 wide receiver/safety, Penn Hills:

“Yesterday was a very good day. I had 9 touchdown catches and I threw one,” said Stephens. “I talked to the Pitt coaches who kept telling me to go make some plays. I just wanted to show them that I can play on the D-1 level.”

**Tank Smith, 2019 LB/RB, Penn Hills:

“Definitely the thing that stood out to me was the facilities. I love Pitt’s outdoor practice fields, they have to be one of the nicest in the country,” said Smith.

“I only spoke with Coach Harley who came up to me and made a joke about my shiny gold cleats! He had a quick laugh and he just told me to keep up the good work. I was more focused on winning than anything today.”

“I love Pitt, they have beautiful facilities, a great coaching staff and I just love the environment surrounding Pitt. They’ll always be one of my favorite schools, no doubt about that,” said Smith.
