Is Hubbard Next For Pitt?

I spoke to Loganville (GA) defensive tackle Ellison Hubbard back in May and got the sense that he was very high on Pitt and could eventually commit to them. After speaking to Hubbard last night, I fully expect Pat Narduzzi to receive a commitment later this month when Hubbard visits Pitt.

Hubbard (6-2, 255) is a 3-star defensive tackle that received an offer from Tom Sims and Pitt in early May. Back then, he cited his fondness of former Panther great Aaron Donald and his development at Pitt as a big reason for his initial interest.

Last night I talked to Hubbard about that and his upcoming visit (July 22) to Pittsburgh.

“What peaked my interest with Pitt were somethings that I’ve heard and read about them.  Being so close to an NFL team and having a chef prepare food for the Panthers just like he does for the Steelers is really awesome.  Just Pitt having a great team and football program alone kicked up my interest,” said Hubbard.

One of the most interesting aspects of a commitment from Hubbard would be Pitt potentially getting a player from Georgia. When’s the last time that happened? Credit defensive line coach Tom Sims if this happens.

“Coach Sims has been my recruiter and we’re close with one another. We talk 1-2 times a week and he’s been trying to get me up to Pitt to check it out and to get a feel of the atmosphere”, said Hubbard.

I’m excited about heading up to Pitt and excited to see the facilities! I’ve had this date set since June since this is closer to the time that I’m ready to commit.”

Hubbard will be here on the 22nd and Plantation, FL wide receiver Dontavius Butler will travel here next week. While Butler might technically be the next Pitt commit, Hubbard could be right behind him.

“My parents are fine with me going to Pitt because it’s not a bad drive for us”, said Hubbard. “It won’t be a struggle for them to come to the games at all. My chances are high of committing to Pitt on that visit, if things are well. If things are looking as good as I hear then Coach Narduzzi will be excited about a new commit!”
