Kalon Gervin

The state of Michigan is a place that the Pitt football program is trying to make a dent in as far as recruiting. And why not, that state will be producing many high D-1 prospects over the next couple of years. All college coaches are familiar with 2017 recruits like Ambry Thomas, Jordan Reid, Scott Nelson, Jaylen Kelly-Powell and Donovan Johnson.

Next year, one of the top names will be Cass Tech 2018 cornerback Kalon Gervin.

This 4-star prospect is getting the attention from some of the nation’s best programs and he’s just entering his junior season. Gervin (5-11, 175) currently holds offers from Arkansas, California, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Iowa State, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Penn State, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

“I’m very engaged with recruiting right now and really trying to take advantage of it. I think visiting schools helps out a lot so I’ll continue to do that,” said Gervin.

Gervin has certainly been doing his best to research prospective colleges. Within the last year, he’s visited Georgia Tech, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

“Michigan, Michigan State, Pitt, West Virginia, Penn State, Tennessee all have great facilities and campuses and I had a great time at each school.”

As far as Pitt is concerned, Gervin has already visited twice including most recently in the middle of June.

“Pitt is definitely a school I’m considering highly,” said Gervin. “They are recruiting me good and the coaches like me. I really like Coach Narduzzi and the last time I went there, we had a good talk.”

I asked Gervin about this conversation and what stood out about it to him.

“The talk with him was great. He just expressed to me that I’m a top priority and that I’m young and have a lot more room to grow. He also told me to take this recruiting serious. He also couldn’t believe I was in the Class of 2018 and said that I play like a 2017.”

Gervin also said, “the thing that really stood out on my Pitt visit was that I got a chance to really talk to Coach Hill and Coach Narduzzi. That was great! I’m planning on getting down to Pitt for a game.”
