Monday Recruiting Notes

Let’s get right into the local recruiting news of the day.

** Last week, we were the first to inform you about the new college football rule regarding tweeting.  Starting today, coaches are now permitted to retweet or favorite tweets from potential recruits. They’re not allowed to respond to these tweets, but like I mentioned, are able to retweet or favorite.

As you can imagine, the Pitt coaching staff — and all other staffs throughout the country — have begun “retweeting.” To be honest, it’s an annoying rule but I understand why it was implemented.

One thing that this new rule does is show which recruits are high priorities for each team. This will allow opposing coaches to look and see which kids are on the “priority board” and try to recruit the kids that aren’t.

To this point, I’ve seen Pitt coaches retweet these recruits: Carter Warren, Gabe Houy, Thayer Munford, Connor Robbins, Connor Heyward, Donovan Jeter, Lamont Wade, Charles Reeves, Jake Lichtenstein, Nathan Proctor, Drew Singleton and Kenny Bennett.

UPDATE (11:58 AM)-

** Here’s an update on 4-star linebacker Nathan Proctor. A source close to him told me this morning that Proctor us finished taking summer visits and plans on preparing for the upcoming season.  The next visits that he makes will be his official visits. Proctor is a player that’s very high on the Pitt Recruiting Board.

UPDATE (12:56 PM)-

McKeesport 3-star DT Curtis Harper has given a verbal commitment to Syracuse.

UPDATE  (3:51 PM)-

** Pitt made the Top 10 for blue-chip offensive tackle, Mekhi Becton from Highland Springs, Virginia. Becton (6-7, 300) is 4-star recruit and ranked as one of the Top 200 linemen in the country.

Becton’s Top 10 list consists of Pitt, Georgia, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Rutgers, Penn State, Michigan and Michigan State.

UPDATE (7:30 PM)-

** Maryland RB Devin Darrington is a player that’s held a Pitt verbal offer for a long time and hasn’t accepted. I wonder if Pitt is looking elsewhere? Today Darrington received an offer from Temple. Recently Florida RB Malik Davis listed Pitt as a finalist. I’ll try and find out if Pitt is pursuing any other backs.
