Pitt Players Face Health Issues

Published

on

This is the type of story that we never want to report on, but unfortunately have to. Today it was revealed that 2 incoming Pitt freshman are battling health issues that will impact their college careers.

Freshman George Hill and Zack Gilbert both have been diagnosed with heart ailments. I’m told that Hill is dealing with an enlarged aorta and his football  career is over. As for Gilbert, the hope is that his condition is treatable and there’s a chance he could return.

Fortunately, the doctors at UPMC were able to diagnose Hill’s condition. Would this have been found if Hill had stuck with his original commitment to Ohio State? Thankfully, he changed his mind and ended up coming to Pitt and Pittsburgh, which is fortunate to have some of the best doctors in the entire country.

Hill is a 4-star defensive back/running back from Ohio while Gilbert, the son of former Pitt great Sean Gilbert, is a 3-star defensive end from Charlotte, North Carolina.

**Offensive lineman Mike Grimm is undergoing hip surgery and will miss the season.

**Junior defensive lineman Justin Moody will no longer play football due to a cervical spine condition.

Forget about football, we here at Pittsburgh Sports Now want to wish all the best and send prayers to all these Panther players for a speedy recovery. The entire Pitt football family will be thinking about you.
