Wednesday Pitt Notes

We hope you’ve enjoyed our first two days of Pitt training camp coverage. We told you that we’d be covering camp extensive and that will continue through the regular season.

** Learned of an interesting recruiting note last night involving Pitt and a very talented recruit. DeMarco Artis (6-3, 220) is a pass rushing defensive end from Sanford, Florida. Artis has already given a verbal commitment to Florida State but last night told me that he plans on making an official visit to Pitt in the fall.

“Coach Conklin & Coach Sims just telling me they need me there & I’m going to visit them,” said Artis.  “I’ll probably visit when they play Penn State. I’m visiting just to see what’s it’s like up there but Florida State is home.”

UPDATE (7:26 AM)-
** Speaking of visiting for the Pitt/Penn State game, Florida 4-star athlete Bruce Judson said months ago that he would visit Pittsburgh for the Pitt/Penn State game. Well a couple weeks ago, Judson made a verbal commitment to South Florida so that visit was in doubt. However, last night Judson announced on Twitter that despite his commitment, he still plans on taking all 5 of his official visits. I would guess that we’ll see him in town for the big game on September 10th.

UPDATE (10:56 AM)-
** On Monday, Clairton cornerback Lamont Wade was a visitor at Pitt practice, and today the Panthers had another big recruit stop by. Our Alan Saunders spotted Beaver Falls DT Donovan Jeter on the practice field with Pat Natduzzi. Jeter is obviously a top priority for Pitt.

UPDATE (1:03 PM)-
** PSN’s Alan Saunders reports that scouts from the Steelers, Tampa Bay and Detroit were in attendance today at Pitt practice.

UPDATE (4:46 PM)-
** Some basketball recruiting news, forward Anthony Polite (Boca Raton, Florida) has released his Top 5 and it includes the Panthers. Polite (6-6, 210) is being recruited by Pitt assistant Kevin Sutton and is a left-handed shooting guard. Polite’s Top 5 is: Pitt, Memphis, Florida State, Miami (FL) and Texas Tech.

UPDATE (6:35 PM)-
** A 3-star cornerback from Georgia that recently received an offer from Pitt just received another big offer. CB Shakur Brown has received an offer from Florida. Aside from Pitt and Florida, Brown also holds offers from Oregon State, Purdue, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.

UPDATE (7:15 PM)-
** Some notes from Pitt practice. I’m being told that as of today, freshman CB Therran Coleman is behind starter Avonte Maddox, and freshman Damar Hamlin is behind senior Ryan Lewis on the depth chart. However, a source tells me that Hamlin could take over that position soon. Hamlin is playing the field side. Both Coleman and Hamlin both had a lot of pass break ups today and Coleman forced a fumble that went for a TD.

UPDATE (10:42 PM)-

**Clairton CB Lamont Wade just confirmed to me that he plans on making his college decision on December 16th.  Wade is expected to pick between Pitt, Penn State, Ohio State, Tennessee, West Virginia and UCLA.
