Don’t look now but Jim Ferry is bringing in a really nice recruiting class for the Duquesne Dukes.

Late night, we were first to tell you that Texas 3-star small forward John Walker gave Ferry and his staff a verbal commitment. Walker joins 3-star Florida guards Darius Banks and Jamari Wheeler in Duquesne’s Class of 2017.

Setting young men on the path to a better future.

Walker who’s from Missouri City, Texas made his decision after making an official visit to Duquesne this weekend.

Walker selected Duquesne despite having an offer from hometown Houston. He was also receiving interest from Texas A&M, Tulsa, Boise State, Arkansas and Baylor.

I asked a couple basketball talent evaluators about Walker and here’s what they said about him:

“Walker was a 6’3 guard who grew to 6’8. He’s a highly skilled player who can shoot, pass and handle the ball. Defensively, he can block shots and constantly gets his hand on the ball because of his wingspan.”

Duquesne's 2024 March Madness Tournament coverage is sponsored by Leon's Billiards & More, Moon Golf Club and Archie's on Carson! Their contributions have allowed us to cover the Dukes run in Omaha, Nebraska. We appreciate their support!

The Dukes will take one more player in this year’s class and could be adding that player soon. Stay tuned.
