Pitt Pursuing Florida Defensive End Stephon Zayas

The 2016 Pitt Panther defense leads the ACC in sacks and thanks to stats like those and the reputation of Pat Narduzzi, they’re in the running for plenty of big-time pass rushers.

One of those players is Florida 3-star defensive end Stephon Zayas.

Zayas (6-6, 205) is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida and is rated as a 3-star by 247 Sports. Currently, Zayas holds offers from Pitt, Louisville, South Florida, Rutgers, NC State, Maryland, Iowa State, Colorado and Illinois.

Right now, it looks like it could be a battle between Pitt and Louisville. If that’s the case, the Pitt assistants led by Tim Salem and Josh Conklin are making Zayas feel very wanted.

“My current relationship with Pitt is very good, we’re very close,” said Zayas.

“I converse on a daily basis with Coach Salem and Coach Narduzzi when it’s my GameDay. When I talk to them, they make sure that my family is doing good as well as me. That’s a big deal to me.”

“We also talk about how they can use me as  big time pass rusher and also when I’m coming up for a visit. I will be taking a visit very soon to Pitt, sooner rather than later. I’m just trying to find a game to come,” said Zayas.

Aside from his relationship with the coaching staff, Zayas is very attracted to Pitt’s defensive system and how they get to the quarterback.

“It’s a big factor to me because they can use my style of play with the defense he runs for me to get to the quarterback. I like how their defensive ends play especially #5 Ejuan Price and all the sacks and tackles for losses he has. He’s a monster and is going to be playing on Sundays,” said Zayas.

The Pitt coaches are looking to add 3 or 4 more defensive lineman in this class and hope Zayas is one of those players.
