Pitt Interested In Malik Zaire?

Published

on

Could Pitt be looking to add a big name graduate transfer quarterback?

If you believe Irish Illustrated then the answer is yes.

Within the last hour, that Notre Dame based website reported that Malik Zaire is a possibility for Pitt. Pete Sampson, the author of the story, writes that Zaire will meet with Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly tomorrow and is expected to get his release.

Irish Illustrated says that the 4 main contenders for Zaire are Pitt, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Florida. Zaire is scheduled to graduate next month and would have one year of eligibility remaining.

Zaire has had an up and down career with Kelly at Notre Dame and is looking for a fresh start in what would be his last year of college football.

I haven’t confirmed this story with anyone and while it could very well happen, I have a few questions.

1) The coaching staff is VERY high on freshman Thomas MacVittie. Are they going to let him sit out another year for a player that’s underachieved at Notre Dame.

2) Bo Schneider transferred to Pitt last year and sat out this season with the plan of challenging MacVittie for the job in 2017. What happened to that?

I’ll continue to work on this story but it’s something that will definitely get Pitt fans talking.
