Tuesday Recruiting Notebook

UPDATE (8:06 PM)-

**Maybe its wishful thinking but you have to wonder if a commitment that Penn State just received might help Pitt with Lamont Wade.

Tonight, Michigan 4-star cornerback Donovan Johnson gave a verbal commitment to James Franklin. That’s another talented defensive back for the Penn State’s defense. That’s a lot of competition.

One thing I know is that Lamont Wade wants to play as a freshman. Not saying he wouldn’t start for Penn State but he’d have a lot easier time doing it for Pitt than at Penn State. Just something to keep in mind.

UPDATE (6:51 PM)-

**For the second time today, Pitt has extended an offer to a 2018 defensive end. This time it’s Marcellus Earlington from Ramsey, New Jersey. Earlington is a 3-star recruit with offers from Boston College, Duke, North Carolina, Rutgers and Syracuse.

UPDATE (6:41 PM)-

**Not the news Pitt fans wanted to hear:

UPDATE (3:08 PM)-
**It sounds as though Pitt is out on New Jersey 4-star linebacker Drew Singleton. Although he made a visit to Pittsburgh during the summer for a team camp, they were never able to get him back on campus. I talked with Singleton who sounds like he’s ready to make his decision and didn’t believe he’d be visiting Pitt in January.

UPDATE (11:18 AM)-
**This morning the Pitt staff offered a scholarship to a highly rated defensive player. 2018 DE Andrew Chatfield from Plantation, Florida.

Chatfield is rated by 247 Sports as a 3-star recruit with offers from Syracuse, Wisconsin, Iowa State, Kentucky, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Rutgers and West Virginia.

UPDATE (9:53 AM)-

UPDATE (9:30 AM)-

**Sounds like USC quarterback transfer Max Browne had a good time visiting Pitt this past weekend.

UPDATE (12:12 AM)-

**Take a deep breath, I have a feeling this is going to be a real interesting next 2+ months covering Pitt football.

**The big news of the night is the likely departure of Matt Canada to LSU. Unfortunately, barring some unforeseen circumstances, this move will come down to money.  We’ll have you covered with the latest news on this all day today. Hopefully, something can be done to stop Canada from leaving, but if not, life goes on and so will the Pitt program. It’s a downer but as long as Pat Narduzzi is here, Pitt will be fine.

**Now to some positive news, I fully expect Pitt to get some news today that will make Pitt fans happy. I will wait for the news to develop but it will be positive for Pitt.  In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised to get a few pieces of good news this week. Stay tuned.
