OT Jerry Drake Commits To Pitt

His official visit to Pitt must have made a huge impression on him because 4-star OT Jerry Drake has decided to commit to the Panthers.

Considering Pitt is losing two NFL caliber lineman this year, the addition of Drake is a  huge get for Narduzzi. Drake made the announcement now because he plans on enrolling early and will arrive in January.

Right after giving the news to the Pitt coaches, Drake gave his first interview to Pittsburgh Sports Now.

“Academics played a huge role in this. I’m a big academic guy and the engineering program that Pitt has is one of the best in the country. When I visited Pitt, I had a chance to tour everything and it was really impressive. I just knew it was a place I wanted to go,” said Drake.

Drake (6-7, 300) is another big recruit from the state of Florida (Palm Beach Gardens) for the Pitt program. The offensive tackle held offers from Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Michigan State, North Carolina, Tennessee and UCLA before deciding on the Panthers.

“When I called Coach Narduzzi to tell him he was ecstatic. Him and all the coaches around him, Coach Salem and Coach Peterson were very excited.”

Drake is Pitt’s 17th commitment in the Class of 2017. Although he’s from Florida, Drake tells me he’s ok with the big move and mentioned that he has family (grandmother) that lives in Cleveland.

This is the first of a couple commitments Pitt should be getting in the next few days.
