As first reported last week by Pittsburgh Sports Now, Oregon State has offered Scott Barnes the school’s athletic director position.
This afternoon, John Canzano of 750 The Game in Oregon and @Oregonian tweeted this.
Oregon State has offered its AD position to Pitt AD Scott Barnes, per source. The two sides are in negotiations.

In our original report by Harry Psaros and Alan Saunders, they stated that Barnes was likely to leave Pitt and accept the same job at Oregon State. We never reported that he accepted the job at the time of the story only that he was likely to accept it. That time could be coming very soon and we of course stand by our original report.
Aside from being closer to home, we understand that there are some family reasons that could factor into this decision.
It’s been interesting that Barnes has not attended the last two Men’s basketball games against Penn State and Rice. Prior to that, Barnes hadn’t missed many, if any, of Pitt’s hoops games since taking over.
