The PA Nike Elite 7 on 7 program hosted their 2nd annual tryout this weekend. The 41 players in attendance participated in position drills before going into 1-on-1’s, and then 7-on-7 scrimmaging. The tryout featured a mixture of 2019 and 2020 players. Everyone did a good job, but the standout players in attendance were:

Matt Schuster, 2019 QB from West Mifflin, was one of the standout quarterbacks, displaying a strong and accurate arm.

Penn Hills 2019 QB Hollis Mathis was in attendance and it was our first time seeing him in action, but he has great skills with a powerful arm and shows good patience in the pocket.

2019 QB Jason Sweeney from Upper St Clair was another quarterback that stood out. Sweeney showed a strong and quick release which led to numerous completed passes.

Corey Melzer, a 2019 wide receiver from North Allegheny, will be a star WPIAL player. He is a very strong route runner with elite speed and is very fluid in the process. He created separation easily and caught numerous deep balls.

Josh Casili, a 2020 RB/WR from Peters Township, was as good as advertised, showing top end speed, good route running, elusiveness, and soft hands catching the football.

Cole Waxter, a 2019 wide receiver from Fox Chapel, looked good in the 1-on-1 drills running sharp routes with explosive speed and great hands.

2019 WR Gabe Maloni of Peters Township was unknown coming in but turned some heads with explosive speed and ability to catch the ball in traffic. He will be one to watch in the future as he fine tune his route running through get reps.

Dominic Dodson (Central Catholic class of 2019) was one of the best DB prospects in attendance. He has nice size and is very physical with good ball skills. He displayed good footwork and technique for his size and definitely has a high ceiling.

Parrish Parker (2019 DB from West Mifflin) plays very fast and has great range at safety. Because of his speed he is able to cover a lot of field and make plays on deep balls.

Jaeden Gordon, a WR/DB from Central Valley, has really good speed and plays confident. I like his “I am the best player here” attitude and he backs it up by making plays. Was active on offense and defense.

Jesse Fera, a WR/DB from Upper St Clair, was another unknown prospect coming in, but he quickly made a name for himself going up to get the ball in traffic on offense and making plays on defense.

Luke Robeson, a 2020 WR/DB from Central Catholic, showed good speed on offense and played physical and with good technique on defense. He will be a name to watch for in the future

Linebacker Jake Stebbins (Seneca Valley class of 2019) is a name on everyones radar as a future WPIAL star. He is very athletic and physical specimen who has ideal height. He was really good in drills throughout the day and was perfect in his 1-on-1 match-ups.

2019 LB Cade Home from North Allegheny was another big time player in attendance. He has a great combination of size and speed and was all over the field on the 1-on-1 drills and team drills making plays.

Devin Sims, 2019 LB from McKeesport, plays with a high motor. During the team drills he was all over the field breaking up passes and making plays. He has elite speed for a linebacker.

Saige Ley, 2019 LB from Seneca Valley, showed great instinct and anticipation breaking on balls and getting into passing lanes. He showed good skill on offense and defense.
