Today, with coaches permitted to get back on the road recruiting, the Pitt coaches met with two really big targets. Linebackers coach Rob Harley was in Maryland with 4-star linebacker Nathan Proctor and wide receivers coach Kevin Sherman visited with Lakeland (FL) running back A.J. Davis.

Davis, who just participated in the UA All-American Game, is rated by 247 Sports as a 4-star back. Getting a commitment from Davis to go along with Todd Sibley, Chawntez Moss and Darrin Hall would give Pitt one of the most talented and deep backfields in the country.

“As far as my initial interest in Pitt, Coach Powell, Coach Conklin and Coach Narduzzi have all contacted me. That’s really shown me that Pitt really wanted me and we’ve stayed in contact ever since then,” said Davis.

Today, Davis met with Coach Sherman who continued trying to sell the talented back on Pitt and the opportunity he’d have with them.

“Their top running back (James Conner) is entering the NFL Draft, that would give me a chance if I go to Pitt to play.”

“Coach Sherman was just telling me how they really want and need me. He was talking about how they need 5 talented backs and how they’re a family and want me to be apart of it,” said Davis.

As far as visits in the future, Davis will be in North Carolina this weekend, followed by a trip to Louisville and will close things out in Oregon. Keep in mind, Davis made his official visit to Pitt in December.

“I loved my visit and my mom did too. It was a really nice city town and it was nice seeing a couple of friends that play on Pitt (Keyshawn Camp and Henry Miller).”

Don’t look for Davis to make a final decision anytime soon. In fact, he could wait until National Letter of Intent Day before making one team very happy.
