Lost in all the talk yesterday because of Michael Smith committing and everyone trying to figure out who the second commit is was the number of scholarships Pitt extended to juniors.
In the last 24 hours, Pat Narduzzi and his staff have offered at least five junior prospects. With the Class of 2017 just about wrapped up, expect to hear a lot more news on next year’s recruiting class.
Pittsburgh Sports Now was able to catch up with these new prospects and got their reaction to receiving the offers from Pitt.
Dawson Hill, RB (5-11, 180) Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
Hill received this offer yesterday from Coach Hill and this is his first Power 5 offer.
“I found out after school my coach told me and I just stood there for a minute and just was like, wow. I didn’t expect an ACC school to hit me up,” said Hill.
“Yes, this offer is special to me even just having a ACC offer. Many kids don’t receive this blessing and mine is starting to come.”
Hill describes himself as a shifty back, quick and has “recovery speed from broken tackles.”
Kenny Bastida, ILB (6-2, 230) Deerfield Beach, Florida
247 Sports rates Bastida as a 3-star prospect with offers from LSU, Penn State, North Carolina and Wisconsin.
“Coach Salem the tight ends coach came into the weight room and let my coach know that I had an offer from them and that he’ll be keeping in touch. I was excited to have the offer because Pitt is a school I heard a lot about this past season especially early in the season when they beat Penn State.”
“My teammate Deslin Alexandre was in a real bind between two great programs in NC State and of course Pitt and that’s how I came to know more about the program. What I collected from those conversations was that Pitt is a beautiful place with an amazing amount of fans. It’s a very motivated and hungry coaching staff that’s ready to go at everyone and show what they have and that made an impression on me,” said Bastida.
“I’m focusing on getting better and trying to expand my offer sheet so I can have the opportunity to choose from any school in the country but I’m gonna make sure Pitt is up there in the visit list. I definitely have thoughts on visiting Pitt and checking out the campus and talking more with the coaching staff. It’s something I want to experience for sure.”

Stevie Scott, RB (6-2, 225) Albany, New York
This was Scott’s 3rd Power 5 offer, with the other ones coming from Boston College and Syracuse.
Jalil Irvin, OG (6-4, 280) Stone Mountain, Georgia
Irvin is a 247 Sports 4-star recruit with offers from Michigan, Auburn, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi State and Virginia Tech. Irvin gave an early commitment to Michigan but later de-committed.
“I was actually in class and my coach called me out and told me that Coach Harley stopped by. He was talking to him about how they are the only team to beat Clemson and then he told coach that he’d like to offer me a scholarship. I really appreciated that,” said Irvin. “Pitt is a good offer because they’re good in both academics and on the field.”
“I have a little knowledge but I will definitely be researching them harder and trying to see about them learn the history and academics of them….I will definitely try and make a visit to Pitt,” said Irvin.
Brenden Bates, TE (6-5, 215) Cincinnati, Ohio
Bates is a 4-star prospect and former teammate of Pitt quarterback Thomas MacVittie. I’ll have a separate story coming up with Bates.
