The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its 2017 football schedule, the last step in finalizing the Pitt Panthers’ football schedule for next season.
Non-conference opponents Youngstown State, Penn State, Oklahoma State and Rice had been previously announced.
Pitt will start conference play on the road with a visit to Georgia Tech on Sept. 23 before finishing the non-conference schedule against Rice. The Panthers’ second conference game will also be on the road, at Syracuse on Oct. 7.
The Panthers have a late bye, coming the weekend of Nov. 3. For the second year in a row, Pitt’s bye will precede the week that the Panthers play on Thursday night, and for the third straight year, Pitt’s Thursday night game will be at Heinz Field. This time, it will be against against North Carolina, which Pitt hosted on a Thursday night in 2015.
Pitt doesn’t play consecutive road games all season, and the travel schedule is pretty easy on the team. The longest journey of the season will be the trip to Georgia Tech.
The home finale will take place on Black Friday against Miami. Pitt hosted Miami for an afternoon game on Black Friday in 2015. Pitt hosted Syracuse during Thanksgiving week in 2016. That game was played on Saturday.
The times for each game will be announced at a later date, except for the game against North Carolina, which will be a night game.
