On Tuesday night, the Pitt football staff offered a number of underclassmen including one of the top defensive players in the Class of 2019.

Antonio Alfano is a 4-star defensive tackle from Bergen Catholic in Oradell, New Jersey. Alfano is only a sophomore but is attracting attention from some of the powerhouse programs in college football.

I caught up with Alfano to get his reaction to the offer and to find out more about this elite talent.

“I loved the offer from Pitt because I enjoyed my visit last summer. I was also surprised to get one because I haven’t spoken to the coaches much (because of compliance). Coach Tim Salem offered me. I like Pitt because of the city atmosphere, it’s history, and the fact that they share facilities with the Steelers,” said Alfano.

“I met Coach Narduzzi at Bergen Catholic last year and when I visited Pitt last summer I met with Coach Salem and his son.

Although he’s only a sophomore, Alfano is starting to get serious about the recruiting process and is starting to develop a plan.

“After my Junior Year, I will look to narrow down the list of potential schools. I’m looking for a school with academics, big fan base and top 25 football team,” said Alfano.

“Of course Pitt will be in consideration. The school is a reasonable distance from home and the team is on the rise. They beat the #1 and #5 ranked teams in the country. Also I’m friends with new recruits Owen Drexel and Carter Warren.”
