Pitt Offers 2017 Center Malik Ondigo

It’s no secret of Kevin Stallings desire to add some size to next year’s roster, so for the 2nd time this week Pitt has offered a 2017 center.

Earlier in the week it was Chiekh Mbacke Diong (Melbourne, Florida) and today it was Malik Ondigo (6-foot-10, 210 pounds) from Putnam Science Academy in Putnam, Connecticut.

Last night, Pitt was in Connecticut scouting Ondigo and today they decided to offer the talented big man.

“Some scouts were telling me that Pitt was coming to see me. They’ve also been to my school awhile back and we exchanged some information. Then after the game, the scouts told me that Pitt said they loved me,” said Ondigo.

“In some ways I was shocked by the offer but they have been telling me that they were close to offering. Once I got the call today, I was shocked but at the same time excited.”

“They have had a big eye on me and have watched me at multiple events so they’ve seen me through the month of November until now. I shouldn’t have been shocked considering how much they’ve watched me but I don’t know how much of a priority I was to them,” said Ondigo.

The Pitt coaches are telling Ondigo the same thing anyone that’s watched Pitt this season can see, they need big men.

“They said they need a versatile guy that can go inside and out. Someone that can post up but also hit a 15 footer and also attack the basket. They need versatility in the front court.”

“I don’t have a flashy game, one of my favorite players was Tim Duncan. I make hook shots but nothing too crazy in my game. A little post up, back to the basket and I’m also able to hit a 10 foot shot,” said Ondigo.

Ondigo tells me that he plans on making his college decision during the late signing period (April 12-25).

Aside from Pitt, Ondigo holds offers from Washington St, Texas Tech, Minnesota, Kansas State and Colorado.
