Jay Symonds boarded a plane this morning at 4 AM from Massachusetts to come visit Pitt. As he heads back home tonight, Symonds leaves as Pitt’s first commitment in the Class of 2018
This afternoon around 3 p.m., Head Coach Pat Narduzzi tweeted out something Pitt fans have been waiting for: the “Pat Signal.” Symonds (6-foot-4, 257-pounds) is another big, physical, tight end joining Tyler Sear and Grant Carrigan from last year’s recruiting class.
From the moment Pitt offered Symonds on February 23rd, you got the feeling that he’d become a Panther sooner or later. When I spoke to him after getting the offer, it was important to Symonds that Pitt was the first school to offer him a scholarship.
I’ll have more with Symonds later tonight once he arrives back home and we’ll find out why he decided to commit to the Panthers today.
