In her biggest scheduling move as Pitt’s athletic director yet, Heather Lyke is bringing back “The Backyard Brawl” on the basketball court.

Today, Pitt announced that starting next season, the Lady Panthers will once again compete against West Virginia.

The two teams will play each other next season and again in 2018-19. Next season, the game will take place on December 7th at WVU Coliseum with the 2018 game being played at the Petersen Events Center.

This will be the first game between these two programs since 2012 and the first since Suzie McConnell-Serio became Panthers head basketball coach.

This series dates back to 1975 with West Virginia holding a 26-18 series lead.

“We are extremely excited about the renewal of this rivalry'” said Pitt Athletic Director Heather Lyke. “This is a tremendous opportunity for us to generate interest from our passionate fan base while taking on competition at the highest level in non-conference play. Coach McConnell-Serio and her staff, along with Sports Administrator Jen Tuscany, did a great job in correspondence with West Virginia to get this series scheduled.”
