Pitt basketball coach Kevin Stallings announced the hiring of an assistant to his coaching staff.

Former Monmouth assistant Sam Ferry has been hired to replace Jeremy Ballard who left to take a similar position at VCU.

For the last 6 seasons, Ferry has been an assistant on King Rice’s coaching staff.

Ferry is considered one of the great young assistants in college basketball. He was recently named to the Under Armour 30-under-30 Team, which recognize 30 men’s basketball coaches under the age of 30.

In a statement released by Pitt, Stallings said “Sam is a tireless worker on the court and on the recruiting trail. He has established great recruiting ties across the Northeast and down into Virginia. His energy and enthusiasm for the game of basketball are infectious and his ability to connect with players is impressive. Sam is an outstanding addition to our staff and will make a significant impact as we build our program here at Pitt.”

Ferry has good recruiting ties in the northeast, Maryland and Virginia.

Ferry is a 2010 graduate of Vanderbilt and was part of their NCAA teams in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011.
